WELCOME TO CNN
As you learn to navigate our organization, you’ll find we have many resources to help ensure you quickly become acclimated to our workplace and our culture. Here are a few things we want to make sure you’re aware of:
The World of CNN
In your first couple of weeks, join us for The World of CNN, podcast overview of the organization. This will guide you through how our business works – what our priorities are, and how we accomplish our strategic goals through our greatest asset – our people. You can find it on the CNN Homepage. You need to have to authenticate to login to this site – it’s secure behind our firewall. More on that below.
The TRIAD
No matter the nature of your job here, everyone should become familiarized with The TRIAD. We require that all CNN editorial employees (anyone who has anything to do with actual newsgathering or reporting) read the CNN Standards and Practices Policy Guide in its entirety in their first 30 days.
New employees must read and electronically acknowledge that they have read the Standard & Practices Policy Guide within 30 days of their hire date, and yearly as directed by executive management.
Workday
Don’t forget to read the WarnerMedia employment policies as well – you can find them on Workday. As a CNN employee, you are expected to be familiar with and follow these policies.
Our Strategic Goals
Don’t forget to read the WarnerMedia employment policies as well – you can find them on Workday. As a CNN employee, you are expected to be familiar with and follow these policies.
The Homepage
CNN places great importance on providing you with information and resources that keep you up to date with all the happenings in our industry and company. The Homepage – our intranet, is central location to get news from executives, catch up on executive Broadcast Town Halls, and stay connected.
CNN Alerts
You may want to take a moment to sign up for CNN Alerts, which will add you to distribution lists for internal messages and important announcements – here you can also sign-up to be added to important editorial aliases.
CNN Tech Training
As mentioned, you’ll need to ensure you have your NT Login and RSA SecurID to access all the above resources as well as your Microsoft Outlook, iNews, NewsApps, CMS, and all our internal systems. If you haven’t yet, sign-up for training on these and many other systems and processes via the CNN Tech Training website.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Pervasive throughout all we do is our focus on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Our mission is simple: across all screens and behind-the-scenes, we will develop our people and use our diverse voices to strengthen our content, grow our business and connect to our evolving audiences and to each other.
From enterprise solutions to our various news systems, here is a list of some internal resources that might be helpful to you.
- A reminder on some of the basics, you’ll want to sign-up for your health & wellness benefits (if applicable) through the WarnerMedia Benefits portal. If you’re having a problem accessing the site, you can call them at 1-800-690-1180.
- Attend an upcoming session of Media Law Training. “What Every Journalist Should Know About Media Law” is a three-hour seminar specifically created for CNN and taught by CNN’s team of news content attorneys. It covers defamation, privacy/newsgathering, and copyright/fair use. This course is offered on an annual basis – for questions about Media Law Training, please contact Daniel.Kozuh@turner.com.
- It’s also critical for employees to read the CNN Travel & Expense Policies. Many US departments are supported by Business Administration, and most international bureaus are supported by CNNI Business Operations – these groups can help provide assistance to you as you familiarize yourself with these policies. They can also help you secure a Corporate Amex (if applicable to your role) and assist you in using Concur to itemize and allocate your business expenses.
- From CNN Tech Training to our wide portfolio of development sessions, we have a lot of opportunities to learn. Lookout for communications from CNN Learning to discover upcoming opportunities.
- Continue to use your onboarding time to build relationships on your team and throughout the company. Set aside time with your manager to understand their goals and expectations for you in your new role. And don’t forget to familiarize yourself with our programming and Brand guidelines.
